Porter’s Barbecue and Tacos Guaymas are making progress, but both restaurants are behind their deadlines to reopen. Click “more” for an update on both popular Tacoma eateries.
I miss the carnitas. And the salsa bar. And the 5 minute drive from the News Tribune office. But don’t panic, Tacos Guaymas will reopen. They will! So says Salvador Sahagun, owner of Tacos Guaymas, one of Tacoma’s most popular taquerias. He told me today that reopening Tacos Guaymas by the end of March is a no go. It will be at least another 20 days (mid-April) before the kitchen is repaired from the fire that closed the restaurant Feb. 16. Here’s the back story on that culprit that closed the restaurant: a pesky oily rag that caught fire (I’m shaking my fist right now at the oily rag). Here’s a tip if you didn’t know: Tacos Guaymas has another location on South Tacoma Way. The address is below.
Tacos Guaymas
Where: 2620 S. 38th St., Tacoma

Alternate location: 10105 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma, 253-983-1805
A RETURN FROM RIB HIATUS
Alton Porter sent a few emails this week about progress on a new home for Porter’s Place BBQ, which closed in February after a six-year stint at its perch above the La Quinta Hotel near the Dome. Porter still is looking to relocate to South Tacoma Way. He doesn’t think he’ll make the April deadline he originally set. Think May. Like the end of May. Stay tuned for more details. I’ll have an update in the middle of April.
Porter’s Place Southern Cuisine & BBQ
Coming to: South Tacoma Way, between 38th and 56th
When: May (ish)
