South Hill residents have been doing a double take of the sign posted at Sunrise Village, the so-called “lifestyle” shopping center that remains alarmingly vacant (darn economy, anyway).

Northwest Vintage, the wine bar in downtown Puyallup, has announced in signage that it is opening a second outpost in the upscale shopping center that is home to the Ram and Sushi Station. Note to fans of the downtown Northwest Vintage: They’re not moving. It’s a second location. I repeat, a second location (so stop calling me already. Just kidding. I love your phone calls. Really).

The downtown Puyallup Wine Bar has operated since January 2009 on Meridian. While the downtown location will continue to operate Thursdays-Saturdays, owner Nicola McDonald said via voice mail that the new location in Sunrise will be open seven days a week. I’ll report more as the opening date approaches.

For background on Northwest Vintage and McDonald, here’s a review I wrote in 2009.

VINUM COFFEE & WINE LOUNGE NOW OPEN IN DOWNTOWN TACOMA

Add one more wine bar to the area. Vinum Coffee & Wine Lounge in downtown Tacoma received liquor board approval yesterday. While waiting for licensing, the restaurant has been operating as a coffee cafe, serving the downtown business crowd.  Vinum operated under the same name under previous owners, but new owners Jennifer Zaskorski and Natural Allah bought the wine bar and reopened it in January. Now that they’re officially a wine bar in the eyes of the law, they’ll begin pouring in April.

Zaskorski and Allah are social workers by trade. So how did they wind up with a wine bar? “There were layoff notices going out. Instead of waiting for ours, we decided this is something we wanted to do,” said Allah by phone. He’s the menu designer and foodie behind the concept. The menu is sandwiches by day, and heartier entrees later at night. Here’s a look at the menu.

Vinum Coffee & Wine Lounge
Where: 1001 Pacific Ave., Tacoma
Phone: 253-779-9901
Website: Vinum Coffee & Wine Lounge
Hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays; 9 a.m.-3 a.m. (yes, that is late-night dining) Fridays-Saturdays. Closed Sundays.

AND ONE MORE NOTE ON WINE…..

And another popular Tacoma wine bar is on the move, but I am still working on reporting that story. I’ll have more in the next few weeks as the owners work out the details of the move.
