Tacos Guaymas expects to be back in business by the end of March.

The popular taqueria on 38th near the Tacoma Mall has been closed since a fire caused $50,000 in damage Feb. 16.

I spoke with owner Salvador Sahagun today, and he told me that he expects repairs to take about 30 more days.
“We’re doing everything as fast as we can,” said Sahagun of replacing the electrical wiring, the ceiling and other damaged parts of the restaurant. The dining room survived the fire unscathed, he said. The culprit in the cause of the fire? An oily rag that spontaneously combusted near the kitchen walk-in.

Until the restaurant reopens, employees of the Tacoma Mall Tacos Guaymas temporarily have been working at the restaurant’s South Tacoma Way Tacos Guaymas, as well as other locations.
