Rumor mill: Maxwell’s Restaurant + Lounge is not closing. Yes, that means you can still get a Walker burger.

The buzz on Twitter yesterday was that Maxwell’s Restaurant + Lounge was rumored to be closing.

Not so says Executive Chef Matt Colony, who also runs the daily operations at Maxwell’s. If the restaurant is closing, that’s news to him. That’s good news for us burger lovers. The Walker Burger lives. (Not to mention the divine farro risotto of which I am newly obsessed).

The rumor of closure is nothing new to Colony, who has heard – from the rumor mill – for two years that his restaurant is on the brink. By email, he told

Ivar’s comes to Puyallup this April

Seattle-based Ivar’s Seafood Bar will open a restaurant in Puyallup in April at 13101 Meridian Ave. E. But if you’re someone who appreciates the nuance of bean origin and brew technique and who enjoys the full-frontal palate assault of rich, dark coffee, then a new Tacoma coffee house is worth a visit.

Metronome Coffee opened a month ago at the corner of Sixth and Union in the space that formerly housed Origin 23 Coffee, which unexpectedly closed in June. Read more »

Burger lust: Pick-Quick in Fife returns from winter hiatus. Next up: Pick-Quick II in Auburn.

Welcome back from your winter hiatus, little burger.

Yesterday was the perfect day for surprisingly unseasonable al fresco dining, so I fled the newsroom and beat it to Pick-Quick Drive-In, which has reopened from the winter hiatus that the walk-up burger drive-in takes every December-January. The sun was shining, the crowds were mingling. The burgers still are top notch. Read more »
