Welcome back from your winter hiatus, little burger.

Yesterday was the perfect day for surprisingly unseasonable al fresco dining, so I fled the newsroom and beat it to Pick-Quick Drive-In, which has reopened from the winter hiatus that the walk-up burger drive-in takes every December-January. The sun was shining, the crowds were mingling. The burgers still are top notch.

What’s not to adore about Pick-Quick? The restaurant has been flipping burgers on Pacific Highway since 1949. It’s one of the region’s oldest restaurants.

And here’s something you’ll want to know: Pick-Quick is opening a second location in Auburn this month. I’ll be sure to keep you posted as the opening date nears.

Reasons to eat at Pick-Quick: The cheeseburgers. Duh! Crunchy, grilled bun, the double pickle punch of pickle chips and sweet relish, fresh burger patty (although the patties are small; get a double for more meaty punch), crisp tomatoes and onions, American cheese (don’t judge) and I love their hand-cut fresh fries with just the slightest amount of skins left on. Did I mention the chili cheese fries? And their outdoor picnic benches always are spotless clean, which earns bonus mom points. The location is immaculately maintained. Best burger find in the South Sound.

Note: They take cash only. Call your order ahead, you’ll be glad you took my advice. At lunch, the line can span 10 to 15 deep. Or more. This is a place that makes its food to order. It’s not a small investment in time to eat there.
