Beer: It’s what’s for breakfast at this year’s Barleywine Festival

Yes, that’s right. Beer is what’s for breakfast at the Parkway Tavern. The fifth annual Barleywine festival is April 24-25. On day two of the festival this year, the tavern will host Barley and Breakfast Sunday April 25 with a brunch catered by Jonz Catering. Tickets are $35 and in limited supply. Go to the Parkway Facebook page for more details. Click more to see the list of beers and more information about the Barleywine Festival from Parkway manager John O’Gara.

“We’ll be pouring these over two days so they won’t all be on at the same time,” said O’Gara, describing the list of barleywines that will be on tap at the Parkway during the two-day festival (the list of barleywines is pasted below). Never had it? Barleywine is a complex style of beer known for its complicated flavors. It’s strong like wine, but made from grain. Therefore, it’s a beer.

Said O’Gara, “I haven’t figured out exactly which ones will be on each day but I do know that I won’t tap the Dogfish Head, Firestone Walker, Mad River Rorschach or Stone until the Sunday Brunch. There will, however, be 32 on tap at all times. And that is waaaay to much barleywine.” Indeed. That’s a lot.

New barleywines at this year’s festival: “Dogfish Head Olde Schoolhouse, Firestone Walker Abacus, Mad River Rorschach (a wheat wine not a barleywine, and quite rare), Beer Valley Highway to Ale, Oskar Blues Old Double Bagger ( exclusive to the Parkway and will never be brewed again), Lost Coast Fogcutter, and Ninkasi Critical Hit.”
