As one cupcake door opened, another closed Sept. 12. Sweet Things Cupcakes & Couture in Proctor opened that day and Indulge Cupcakes in Puyallup closed to prepare for a move to Sumner. Click “more” for the icing on the cupcake.
After much anticipation and several months delayed, Sweet Things Cupcakes & Couture opened Sept. 12 in Proctor. I stopped in last week and sampled a trio of cupcakes. I’ll post more about the flavors and the store Friday. Sneak peak: the shop is Girly (with a really big G) and the cakes are delicious. I left the shop craving another espresso. They serve a a tasty Dillanos custom blend.
In other cupcake news, Indulge Cupcakes in Puyallup closed temporarily Sept. 12 so that owner Jen Quaschnik could move her 2-year-old cupcake shop from downtown Puyallup to downtown Sumner. She expects to reopen in early October.
“We’re moving to a cute little white house. It’s less square footage, but we’re making it work,” said Quaschnik, who was a stay-at-home mother for more than a decade before opening her cupcake bakery. Her children attend school in Sumner, so the move is as much for family as it is for a better location for the shop. They’ve lost their banquet space, but there will be room to sit and eat a cupcake at the Sumner location. The cupcake menu will remain the same. She plans to be open until 8 p.m. at least some nights, although she hasn’t set her hours quite yet. For early morning traffic, she’s toying with the idea of adding a hearty breakfast cupcake to the menu.
