Scores of sailors will disembark on Tacoma shores next week when the Tall Ships arrive.
Where’s a hungry sailor to eat and drink?

Logal blogger TacomaMama.com compiled a list of discounts sailors can receive by flashing their crew identification in restaurants and bars along the Foss waterway, near the Tacoma Dome and in downtown Tacoma.
(Hint: Free breakfast at Cascade Bagels and free appetizers at Paddy Coynes and Café by the Bay sound cool, and 10 percent off at places like Dock Street Sandwich and Puget Sound Pizza are attractive. But complimentary edamame at Two Koi? When other Japanese restaurants routinely offer the soybeans for free any time of year? C’mon.)

Abella: Popular with University of Washington Tacoma students, the pizzeria offers modestly-priced pies and pasta entrees. Expect to spend: 10 bucks or less.
Alfred’s: It’s open early for breakfast and into the late evening for belly-filling fare like meaty spaghetti, burgers, oysters sandwiches and pizza. Expect to spend: 15 bucks or less.
Doyle’s Public House: If you’re over 21, you can get a hot dog –- a grilled Hebrew National, on a toasty bun — plus any pint of Euro beer for $5.75, from 4-6 p.m. during happy hour on Friday.
Enoteca: Cheese plates, sandwiches, salads and a great selection of wines by the glass. Expect to pay: 15 bucks or less.
Hot Rod Dog: Super all-beef hot dogs (plus a veggie dog) and the coolest counter in town – fashioned out of the tail end of a ’68 Camaro. Expect to pay: 5 bucks or less.
The Harmon: Downtown’s pioneering brewpub offers free peanuts every day and all-you-can-eat fish and chips all day Sunday for $9.95. Buy some brewed-in-Tacoma beer to go.
The Hub: Open since April, The Hub’s sea legs are still a bit shaky, but $4 pizzas – the whole pizza, chef’s choice, changes daily – put the happy in happy hours (4 p.m.-10 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays, all day Sundays). Expect to pay: 10 bucks or less.
The Matador: If you’re 21 or older, this is the place to get happy at happy hours (4-6 p.m. and 10 p.m.-1 a.m. daily), with meal-sized tacos, quesadillas, soups, salads and more priced $5 or less. Expect to pay: 10 bucks or less.
Pacific Grill: Captain’s prices prevail at this upscale eatery, but happy hours (2 p.m.-6 p.m. Fridays, 9-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, and 5 p.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays) are affordable and delicious, with 50 percent discounts on great bites like seafood cocktail, cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, lamb tartare, mussels and fries and more. Expect to pay: 15 bucks or less.
Puget Sound Pizza: Excellent pizza, fine breakfasts and good sandwiches, every day of the week. Expect to pay: 15 bucks or less.
Sea Grill: Tired of the sea, sailor? Then belly up to Sea Grill’s burger, wrapped in prosciutto and smothered in gorgonzola. The burger is one of many bar bites that are $2 off during happy hours (4-6 p.m. Friday and 9-close Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m.-close Sunday). Expect to pay: 15 bucks or less.
