I like to read the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in the afternoons. It’s tied to my affinity for afternoon baseball games and the defunct Hearst-owned San Francisco Examiner, the latter of which the P-I resembles (except for a saloons columnist). The P-I is where I just caught up with trans fats.


Beginning with Monday’s Opening Day (Mariners vs. A’s, 3:35 p.m.) trans fats are benched at Safeco Field. I read it on page A1. You can read it here. Long version short: Except for garlic fries and whatever is served at Ivar’s and Kidd Valley, most ballpark food will be free of artery-clogging hydrogenated oils.


Meantime, Aramark, concessionnaire at 13 Major League and 10 minor league baseball stadiums, just sent trans fats to the showers in favor of non-hydrogenated corn and sunflower oil in its fryers.


Now that I’ve hyped the competition, here’s a word from my sponsor: Relive last season’s Opening Day Eating. I hope Dippin’ Dots didn’t get sent to Albuquerque in the trans fats trade.
