Here’s another cute kid food story.
This appetite for more sophisticated restaurant fare is not surprising. Kids are dining out more with their parents–and not just for fast food. A 2005 Yankelovich Youth Monitor Survey found 63 percent of children ages 6 to 17 help their parents choose a sit-down restaurant, up from 51 percent in 2001.
The rise in the popularity of ethnic food helps too. Sushi is the second most popular entree in American restaurants, just behind pizza, according to the Mintel research group. Among children under 6, Mexican cuisine is now the seventh most popular food in restaurants.
