The University of Puget Sound is among 45 American and Canadian schools that have been nominated for the “Most Vegetarian-Friendly Colleges in America” award by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Just as South Sound restaurateurs Gordon and Steve Naccarato have begun a new chapter in the life of The Beach House, the brothers closed the book on a Tacoma wine bar/tapas concept they say got too pricey to build.

Mariel was to occupy ground-floor space and part of the plaza next to the Courtyard Marriott hotel. The Naccaratos said Mariel’s budget hit $2.5 million — $1 million more than it cost them to build Pacific Grill, a few doors down the downtown drag.
