From the Bayou, Parkland’s Cajun restaurant, is for sale. Kevin Roy, who opened the restaurant in 1998, wants to move back to Louisiana to be closer to his parents. He said he’s lived outside of Louisiana longer than he’s lived in his home state.

"I just feel like my family’s becoming more important to me, and I feel like I just want to get to know them," Roy told me today.

He’s not sure what he’ll do once gets back to Opelousas.

"I don’t know what I’ll do," said Roy, 39. "But I’m open to the idea. I never thought I’d be changing careers in the middle of my life. My parents were the type of people that went to school, got jobs and stayed in those jobs. I thought I would be following their footsteps. It’s taken me a while feel that it’s OK to change jobs."

Roy said the sale price is being negotiated.

"Everyone that’s been interested in it wants to keep it From the Bayou," he said. "I’m willing to stay and help in the transition."
