Grit City Bootlegs No. 68: An interview and new tunes from Big Wheel Stunt Show

Big Wheel Stunt Show will unleash their new album “Cheetah Milque” on Tacoma Saturday night with a CD release party at the New Frontier Lounge. We’ll have a related story on one of Tacoma’s most talented rock bands in Friday’s GO section.

But in the meantime I thought I’d share this interview from last week at the Frontier. And if you hit the “more” button you can also check out several performance videos I shot with my little Kodiak point-and-shoot last Saturday at Supernova downtown. These boys rock!

Devo founder Gerald Casale describes “groundbreaking” new video (audio)

Devo delivered one of the most striking and iconic music videos to ever grace MTV with “Whip It” in the ’80s. And after interviewing band founder Jerry Casale this afternoon, it sounds like the new wave pioneers may be setting the bar again with their forthcoming clip for “What We Do,” the next single from last year’s “Something for Everybody” album.

Get to know Sweet Kiss Momma (video)

Just ‘cause they’re from the Northwest doesn’t mean they can’t rock like Skynyrrrrrrrrrd! Sweet Kiss Momma is one of South Sound’s most popular “southern” rock acts. (Hey, go with it. Puyallup is south of where I’m sittin’, anyway.) And the band debuted this slick, new mini doc during their most recent appearance at Jazzbones. Check it out.

Could Puyallup’s Mathias Anderle be the next Justin Bieber? (video)

Puyallup native has got a couple of singles out on Razor & Tie. He’s appeared with the likes of Justin Bieber, Soulja Boy and Rev. Run in Nick Cannon’s Nickelodeon flick “School Gyrlz.” And he’s even done some modeling. So could this guy wind up being the next teen heartthrob to come out of Hollywood (by way of South Sound)?

Time will tell. Meanwhile, I shot this interview clip backstage with Anderle about an hour before he went on at the Puyallup Fair on Sunday. You may recognize another local guy who’s been on TV in the background, despite his shorter hair. And after you’re done watching, you can click the more button for more videos showing what Anderle has been up to down in the City of Angels.

More Bomba Estereo video from Bumbershoot

That last video I posted of Columbia’s Bomba Estereo performing at Bumbershoot got a pretty good response, so here’s another one. This is how the band kicked it’s set off, with “Elegancia Tropical” and “Pa’ Ti.” Singer Liliana Saumet’s vocals get lost in the mix here and there, but it’s still a pretty fun.

On a side note, I sadly don’t have footage of the band’s set-ending remake of Technotronics’ “Pump Up the Jam.” May have to look for fan clips later.

Video interview with Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime (a.k.a. Dudley Perkins)

I’ve followed singer/rapper Georgia Anne Muldrow for a couple of years and, like Mos Def, I’m smitten with her uplifting neo-soul ballad “Roses” (a cut Mos remade for his his last album, “The Ecstatic.”)

I was looking forward to her set Sunday with Declaime (a.k.a. rapper Dudley Perkins) more than just about any other act at Bumbershoot. And I even got to hang out for a minute. In the interview clip below, the couple talks about their heartfelt brand of hip-hop and why they rebel against trends that land other artists
