F-ing Eagles world conquest, phase two

Around here we’ve known the F-ing Eagles are pretty rad for a while. See for yourself tonight when they open for surf-guitar legend Dick Dale tonight at Hell’s Kitchen; booking guru Flash says they go on at 10.

But soon potentially millions will have heard T-town’s grittiest garage-rockers thanks to a few well-placed cuts from the band’s first two discs, “A Million Dollars Worth of Music” and last year’s “Midnight Sour.”

Tacoma Rock City approved (Aug. 20 to 26)

All we hear is Lady-O Gaga

I’m a jaded rock critic, hence my initial resistance to Lady Gaga. Sure, her hits are kinda catchy, but they’re also kinda disposable. She’s sooo edgy, but really Madonna had all the gender-bending and sacrilegious video imagery down to a science way back in 1990 (and, really, Peaches pushes the boundaries way further than both of them.) But I must confess, I’m on board for the Artist Formerly Known As Stefani Germanotta’s stop Saturday at the Tacoma Dome. Mostly I want to see what kind of wacky outfit she shows up in – you know, if she’ll reprise her telephone-head ‘do or dust off that Kermit the Frog stole she wore that one time.

The after party, featuring Monster Ball opener Semi Precious Weapons, is at Jazzbones, by the way.

Tacoma Rock City approved (Aug. 13 to 19)

A few events worth checking out in the week to come.

Music and Art in Wright Park benefit show

Earplugs are not optional on Saturday. At least not if you want your ears to survive the epic metal sludge and hardcore mayhem that Mico de Noche and C.F.A. will unleash on Tacoma’s New Frontier Lounge. The bands are looking to raise about $2,500 to help finance the MAWP festival, which will also feature the F-ing Eagles, Gold Teeth, Lozen, Girl Trouble and more on Aug. 21 at Wright Park.

The 10th annual Hotrod-A-Rama festival will take over the Swiss Tavern and the surrounding block on Aug. 6 and 7, with lots of smokin’ rides – this year’s theme is traditional ‘rods from 1965 and earlier – and some of the region’s rowdiest bands. Girl Trouble’s Bon Von Wheelie on getting sued, “pay to play” (audio)

As tweeted the other day, Tacoma’s garage-punk heroes Girl Trouble have been sued by Gorilla Productions. The Ohio-based company alleges defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress, all based on from drummer Bon henderson’s Never Pay to Play site. Henderson – a.k.a. Bon Von Wheelie – even has a link to the lawsuit here.)

Local rocker turned lawyer Wade Neal (Seaweed, the F-ing Eagles) will represent the band. There will be more about it in Friday’s GO section. Meanwhile, you can the link below to hear Henderson

Grit City bootlegs No. 33: Scenes from Top of Tacoma’s birthday bash (video)

Last night, Top of Tacoma celebrated two years of being McKinley Hill’s hippest destination. And the Top had a little help from a couple of T-town’s hottest bands, Revengers and the F-ing Eagles. Apologies in advance for the dark footage, but these clips will still give you an idea of what went down if you missed it.
