Prog-rock kings Rush and their faithful converged on Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre on Saturday to celebrate one of the band’s most critically acclaimed albums and to party like it’s 1981. Read more »
How big of a Beatles freak is Debbie Cafazzo, my bud over on the TNT’s education beat? She flew down to San Francisco last weekend to check out Paul McCartney at the Bay Area’s AT&T Park. She even wrote a little something up to share with all her fellow fanatics out there.

I am still recovering from my 24-hour Paul McCartney experience.
No… it wasn’t THAT kind of experience. Although a woman of a certain age never abandons hope! Read more »
Sting performing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Sunday night (photos by Matthew Lamb)
Metallica’s done it. Wynonna’s done it. Even gangsta rapper Ice T has resorted to that most pretentious of pop clichés, going symphonic. So color me jaded when Sting announced his tour with the Queen’s Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and his intent to give his hits the classical treatment. A related album, “Symphonicities,” is also reportedly on the way. Read more »
The dynamic country duo of Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn just bid their Puget Sound fans adieu as what’s been billed as their farewell tour wound down at the Tacoma Dome less than an hour ago. Brooks seemed to leave the door open to coming back, but more on that and a few photos later. Meanwhile, here’s what they played.
Here’s a peek at Spoon’s set list from last night for those curious about what they might hear during the second half of the band’s two-night stand in Seattle. I’m working on some pics from last night, too, so check back in a bit.
Laser Muse: Last night’s show featured top notch effects (photo by Ernest Jasmin)
Three skyscraper-shaped pillars loomed over Silversun Pickups during the L.A. quartet’s opening set Friday night at KeyArena. And shortly after recalling the time his band kicked it at the Fremont Troll and an early gig at Fremont Oktoberfest, singer-guitarist Brian Aubert delivered a warning about those foreboding props and tour mates, Muse.
“Your brains are gonna melt a little bit. If you care about your brain, you should leave.”
Joke or no joke, I wasn’t about to take off. Strangely, last night was my first time seeing the heavily hyped Muse live show. From traffic jams to conflicting assignments, something has always gotten in the way. But now I know to take the Pickups‘ P.S.A. more seriously. I think I did feel my grey matter liquefying – just a little – during an epic two-hour set that left me breathless many times. Read more »
George Strait has sold something like 70 million records. So plenty of people will passionately disagree with me, especially the guy sitting two rows behind me at the Tacoma Dome Saturday night, screaming “I LOVE YOU, GEORGE STRAIT!” loud enough to rupture a sober man’s vocal chords after every single song. (OK, we get it, dude. Enjoy your laryngitis.) But I really don’t think Strait should go on after Reba McEntire.
The King of Country’s Twang tour showcased three of country’s brightest stars – also opener Lee Ann Womack – with 4 ½ hours of smash hits delivered in the …
He’s “the poet laureate of soul,” creator of the “Quiet Storm” – not to mention one of the most accomplished hit makers of the last half century. Who better to get Tacoma couples in a Valentine’s state of mind than William “Smokey” Robinson?
The Motown legend headlined a joyful two-hour set at the Emerald Queen Casino tonight, and in the process demonstrated to a packed house that his voice is still silky after all these years. And a few days shy of 70, Robinson still has a few gyrations left in those creaky, ol’ hips. He …
Alice in Chains singer-guitarist William DuVall Thursday night in Seattle (photo by Ernest Jasmin).
“It’s always nice to come home, and we have a lot of memories in this particular building,” Alice in Chains drummer Sean Kinney declared as his band’s triumphant, 90-minute set wound down Thursday night at the Moore Theatre. “This is another one we won’t forget.”
Ditto, Sean. A in C is the first of the early ’90s “grunge” bands I fell in love with, and it was great seeing those guys back and firing on all cylinders – especially considering the tragic circumstances that ripped them apart. New songs “Check My Brain” and “Acid Bubble” sounded great, alongside classics like “We Die Young,” “Would” and “Rooster.” And this has been my favorite show in a week that’s been packed with the Monsters of Northwest rock. Even the band that kicked this here Northwest rock thing off, the Fabulous Wailers, is playing on Saturday (Sept. 26.) Sweet! Hit “more” for last night’s set list. Read more »
Heart delivered 90 minutes of grandstand-rockin’ goodness at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center tonight. And Alice in Chains’ Mike Inez even showed up to lend a hand. You know, since he’s in town for Alice’s big gig at the Moore Thursday night. Hit the “more” button for the set list, and be sure to check back for a more detailed report. Read more »
