Music and Art in Wright Park benefit show

Earplugs are not optional on Saturday. At least not if you want your ears to survive the epic metal sludge and hardcore mayhem that Mico de Noche and C.F.A. will unleash on Tacoma’s New Frontier Lounge. The bands are looking to raise about $2,500 to help finance the MAWP festival, which will also feature the F-ing Eagles, Gold Teeth, Lozen, Girl Trouble and more on Aug. 21 at Wright Park.

Parting shots from Sasquatch! 2010, featuring New Pornographers, Japandroids and Green Man

I had other business to deal with as soon as I got back to T-town, so I’m just now getting around to some of the left over photos I have from Sasquatch! 2010. My bad, y’all. But here’s some of what went down on Memorial Day (all photos by Ernest Jasmin, copyright 2010).

Farewell, Sasquatch! 2010

Another Sasquatch! Festival is in the books. Jams were kicked out, crowds were surfed. Furry hats were rocked like no time since Davy Crockett. And while I didn’t catch every band on my agenda this Memorial Day weekend, I did witness several performances I won’t forget any time soon. Here are the five that stand out most:

1. LCD Soundsystem: From the hedonistic refrain of “Drunk Girls” to the flash mob that spread across the hillside during “All My Friends,” this was easily the most festive set I witnessed at Sasquatch! 2010. It was my first time catching band

Freaky fashion from Sasquatch! 2010

As mentioned, the biggest fashion trend at Sasquatch! 2010 is furry hats, especially panda hats, mysteriously worn mostly by Vancouverites. And some new friends from north of the 49th Parallel tell me it’s kind of a practical thing. It makes it easier to be spotted and spot your friends in the crowd. Not sure if Sasquatch and the super hero crew have the same motivation. But, you know, sometimes you gotta dress like the Riddler.

Naked hippies, Green Man clones and other highlights from Sasquatch!

Craig Finn of the Hold Steady (photos by Ernest Jasmin)

Within moments of entering the Gorge Amphitheatre for Sasquatch! 2010, we spied a drunk and probably otherwise chemically altered hippie guy grooving to the alt-country vibe of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros’ “Home.” Oops! Left out the most important detail. He was wearing only a single tube sock. For the record, 4:20 is too way early to be butt nekkid in public. Just ask Miss Manners. But the timing somehow fit.

Live from Sasquatch 2010 (finally)

I arrived at the ol’ Sasquatch festival a bit later than expected and (most sadly) missed Brother Ali this afternoon. But in the first hour on the Gorge grounds, I caught a bit of comedian Patton Oswalt, spied several guys dressed as Green Man (you know, of “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” fame) and a one really wasted guy dancing around, wearing absolutely nada. Guess which one of the above I did not need to see at all. Then check back later for more updates.

Five more reasons to be geeked about Sasquatch!

Sasquatch! Festival kicks off in a little over 24 hours with yet another massive three-day lineup including some of the hottest bands in America. It goes without saying I’ll be posting updates all weekend, so check back. Meanwhile, here are five acts I’m most excited about seeing this weekend. Woot!
