Metallica’s done it. Wynonna’s done it. Even gangsta rapper Ice T has resorted to that most pretentious of pop clichés, going symphonic. So color me jaded when Sting announced his tour with the Queen’s Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and his intent to give his hits the classical treatment. A related album, “Symphonicities,” is also reportedly on the way.

Sting, Iron Maiden to return to White River Amphitheatre this summer

International pop star and former Police man Sting will deliver his big hits accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra on June 6 at Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre, Live Nation announced today. The orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Steven Mercurio (Pavarotti, Bocelli).

Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on March 22, and they will be available through Ticketmaster. Today’s announcement did not include prices.

Sting last dropped in on White River in 2004 with fellow hit maker Annie Lennox. But he’s not the only big shot returning to White River this summer.
