Hip-Hop for the Holidays headed to the new Firwood Rock Lounge downtown

Just got a call from FYR Entertainment about their Thanksgiving pre-funk show, Hip-Hop for the Holidays, which will bring Tacoma rapper Roderic and Clemm Rashad to the new Firwood Rock Lounge next Wednesday. The show will start at 9 p.m., and if nothing else I’m curious to see someone performing on that elevated stage they have overlooking the dance floor over there. More details on the venue here.

If you read today’s local section you know Tacoma rapper Roderic was down at Classy Chassis Car Wash & Detail in Lakewood yesterday shooting a video for his song “Freshman,” a cut that’s generated a little buzz on a few hip-hop sites. He’s already appeared on B.E.T. and a national ad campaign for the U.S. Census. So could 2010 be a breakout year for the Curtis High grad?

Could BET appearance be Tacoma rapper Roderic’s big break?

Perhaps you read a story in Monday’s SoundLife section I wrote about 20-year-old Tacoma rapper Roderic Jamal DeSean Peters, who simply goes by Roderic when he’s onstage. Well, today the Curtis High School alumnus will compete on Wild-Out Wednesday, the weekly musical showdown on BET’s popular “106 & Park” show.

Roderick’s episode will air at 6 p.m. today, and locals can vote for him on the BET web site. Meanwhile, just click the “more” button to hear a few things he had to say when I rang him up last week.
