The Thermals interview (audio)

Portland’s popular punk trio, the Thermals, is headed north for a pair of big shows at Seattle’s Neumo’s (Friday) and the Northern in Oly. That second one will be open to all ages on Sunday.

We’ll have a related Q & A in this week’s GO section and the Olympian’s Weekend. Meanwhile, I figured fans might get a kick out of a few clips from my interview with drummer Westin Glass. Click the links below to hear him talk about …

… being the semi-new guy.

Around this time last year, Puyallup’s Roman Holiday made an impressive showing at their hometown Liberty Theater, packing the historic, 600-capacity venue to the rafters as they unveiled their sophomore disc, “Paint This Town.”

And in 2011, those RoHo boys plan to step their game up. By now established as one of the area’s most buzz-worthy bands, they will return to the Liberty Friday night, this time with support from their their pal, Ben Union. They’ll shoot some DVD footage while they’re at it.

Backstage Bar & Grill aiming for Feb. 1 opening

Tacoma could have a new rock venue as soon as Feb. 1. That’s the tentative opening date for Backstage Bar & Grill, the new club that’s in the works at 6409 Sixth Ave., according to general manager Joy Hutt. But she added that opening day largely depends on how soon owner Stephen Tippins can secure a liquor license.

The new club is under construction in the space formerly occupied by Game On Sports Grille. Hutt described the vibe Backstage is going for as part cowgirl bar, part Hard Rock Café. The 6,800-square-foot venue will feature live music, rock

F-ing Eagles world conquest, phase two

Around here we’ve known the F-ing Eagles are pretty rad for a while. See for yourself tonight when they open for surf-guitar legend Dick Dale tonight at Hell’s Kitchen; booking guru Flash says they go on at 10.

But soon potentially millions will have heard T-town’s grittiest garage-rockers thanks to a few well-placed cuts from the band’s first two discs, “A Million Dollars Worth of Music” and last year’s “Midnight Sour.”

Playing with dad’s band, touring with Zeppelin tribute emotional experiences for Bonham

Bonham: Keeping dad’s legacy alive (photo by Robert Knight)

With Led Zeppelin, “Bonzo” John Bonham provided the techtonic beats behind some of rock’s most epic recordings. Then his untimely death brought the band’s legendary run to a sudden, shocking halt on Sept. 25, 1980.

But 30 years later, his legacy lives on with his son. It has been three years since Jason Bonham sat in with Zeppelin’s surviving members during a one-off reunion gig at London’s O2 Arena (“Kashmir” video here.) And now Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience is ready to rattle Seattle’s WaMu Theater with “Kashmir,” “Stairway to Heaven” and other Zep classics on Saturday night.

Revengers, Bloodhunger and Swampy Draws lineup changes

A few popular Tacoma bands will look a little different in the near future. For starters, Revengers will play their last show with vocalist Eric Quinn on Friday night at the New Frontier before the Mighty Quinn heads off to law school in Michigan. I ran into Revengers beatmeister Jeff Berghammer this morning when he was getting some coffee, and he said he and his mates are contemplating going on with a new singer. But can they find one that emotes quite like Eric? Methinks no.
