Memorial show for Medicine Wheel singer set for Friday

What a sad time for our local music scene. By now many of you read about the passing of Dirty Knockers front man Brian Redman and the related memorials at the New Frontier Lounge on Thursday (Oct. 1) and Doyle’s Public House on Friday.

Well, several local bands are also gathering Friday night to pay homage to Nick Summerville of local metal band Medicine Wheel who died from diabetes-related complications on Sept. 4. Friday night’s bill at the Cedarwood Dome in Fife will include Atomic Outlaws, VIII Days Clean and surviving members of Medicine Wheel. Click the “more” button to check out the poster.

3 Inches of Blood on Brian Redman

Just noticed that 3 Inches of Blood had posted an online statement about former band mate Brian Redman, who died early Sunday:

We are shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of our friend and former band mate Brian Redman. Brian was a outgoing and charismatic person who was great friends with most people he met. We couldn’t help but smile or laugh when he was around. He had such a likable personality but also had a knack for putting serious things into perspective.

More details for Doyle’s Brian Redman memorial

Doyle’s Public House owner Russ Heaton e-mailed more details regarding Friday’s memorial show for fallen Tacoma rocker Brian Redman.

As many of you know we lost Brian in an accident this past weekend. We are holding a memorial / benefit for him this Friday. The big tent is being rolled out and over 12 bands will be playing tribute to Brian. We are asking for a $5 donation at the door. There will be a Taco Truck in the parking lot for late night eats. So many members of our community have stepped forward with generous donations to make this event possible.

The New Frontier is the last place Redman played, just hours before he died. And his band, Dirty Knockers, was originally scheduled to play Thursday night. Proceeds from the New Frontier show will help pay Redman’s funeral expenses.

This is in addition to the memorial show set for Friday

Brian Redman, a long-time staple of Tacoma’s music scene, was killed in an early Sunday morning scooter crash, according to Tacoma police. He was 31.

Redman was known for leading Tacoma hard-rock band, Dirty Knockers, for a two-year stint with popular, Vancouver, BC thrash-metal outfit 3 Inches of Blood and playing bass for hardcore band Trial. He last performed with Dirty Knockers Saturday night at Tacoma’s New Frontier Lounge.
