Giddy about Gorillaz

So who’s as excited as I am that Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz will drop album No. 3 this year? It’s called “Plastic Beach,” and sources say that Snoop Dogg, Mos Def and Lou freakin’ Reed are among Albarn’s recruits this time around.

The official track listing released yet. But I found a few alleged demos I found floating around on YouTube.

Oh, and Rolling Stone says Gorillaz will be at Coachella this year, which gives me hope the virtual band may swing up this way, too. But hopefully the live show will be more like “Demon Days Live” DVD and less like their set at the Paramount a few years back when they just hid behind a veil and showed cartoons.

Velvet Revolver. Eh.

Audioslave. Interesting for a minute.

But Dave Grohl plus Josh Homme plus John Paul Jones? Now there’s a supergroup we can finally get excited about. And here’s what the trio – joined by Queens of the Stone Age alumnus Alain Johannes on rhythm guitar – played Saturday night at the Paramount.

The Heartless Bastards interview

Austin’s Heartless Bastards are a band on the rise. And they’ll showcase the rootsy, rockin’ sounds of their third album “The Mountain” tonight when they open for Wolfmother at the Paramount in Seattle.

That was the occasion for calling Wennerstrom, whose booming, soulful vocals add an epic feel to the Bastards’ best songs. Click the link to hear what she had to say …

… about the band’s name and her unique vocal style.

And here’s a nice clip of her playing the title track to the new disc, one of my favorite songs of 2009. Hit the “more” button to get a better idea of what she and the band will sound like tonight with a gorgeous clip of them playing “Sway” at SXSW.

Motley Crue did it. Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters did it. And now it’s the Pixies’ turn to take one of their iconic albums on tour; their 1989 classic “Doolittle” to be more specific, with bassist Kim Deal blurting out updates throughout their set at the Paramount Theatre Thursday night, the first half of a two-night stand.

“The beer’s almost gone out of the refrigerator. All the cool people have gone home,” she joked as the Pixies rock party neared its finale.

Hit the “more” button to check out the set list, find details for tonight’s show here and check back later for a few scenes from the show.

South Sound Superstar: Maple Valley’s Brandi Carlile, joyfully headlining Seattle’s Paramount Theatre Saturday.

I’d still rank Brandi Carlile’s concert last year at Benaroya Hall a notch or two higher than Saturday night’s homecoming set at the Paramont Theatre. Mostly little things set that show apart, like the acoustics at Benaroya being more conducive to going unplugged and mike-less for “Dying Day” (lots of shushing this time); a set list that featured more of Brandi’s self-titled debut, which is still my favorite of her three albums. Oh, and no Symphony this time, though cello player Josh Newman held his own as the one-man string section during most of the set.
