Grit City Bootlegs No. 68: An interview and new tunes from Big Wheel Stunt Show

Big Wheel Stunt Show will unleash their new album “Cheetah Milque” on Tacoma Saturday night with a CD release party at the New Frontier Lounge. We’ll have a related story on one of Tacoma’s most talented rock bands in Friday’s GO section.

But in the meantime I thought I’d share this interview from last week at the Frontier. And if you hit the “more” button you can also check out several performance videos I shot with my little Kodiak point-and-shoot last Saturday at Supernova downtown. These boys rock!

Grit City Bootlegs No. 67: A Sublime fake? You decide

So I’m not sure exactly who Lyon Pride Music had playing at Jazzbones Sunday night when Long Beach Rehab headlined. That is, it was, indeed, a band called Long Beach Rehab. But the group was billed as a celebrity tribute act featuring Bad Brains singer H.R. and Q-Ball from LBC Sublime. Through word of mouth, that somehow turned into the actual Eric “Q-Ball” Wilson from Sublime.

Grit City Bootlegs No. 62: Spaceman and Rockwell Powers at Capitol Hill Block Party

Sure, the Capitol Hill Block Party takes place in one of Seattle’s hippest neighborhoods. But Tacoma has definitely been well represented the first couple of nights. And here’s a clip from day two featuring local rapper Rockwell Powers, representin’ Grit City during Seattle rapper Spaceman’s portion of the Hip-Hop Showcase. (Warning: PG-13 language is involved.)

When you’re

Grit City Bootlegs No. 60: 3 Inches of Blood rock Mayhem Fest 2010

3 Inches of Blood may technically be a gang of Dungeons & Dragons obsessed Canadian metalheads. But here at TRC we give them an honorary Grit City pass for (a) living in Tacoma when they wrote “Fire Up the Blades” a few years back with Slipknots Joey Jordison, (b) for rocking our faces off whenever they come to town and play Hell’s Kitchen, and (c) for just being a swell bunch of guys. So here’s some of the insanity that ensued after these kinda-sorta Tacomans headlined Mayhem Festival’s parking lot stage Tuesday evening.

P.S. There are more videos, photos and notes from Mayhem on the way, some of them featuring Oompa Loompas. Yes, orange-tinted little people with green hair. Seriously.
