Major Nirvana exhibit to open next year at EMP/SFM

Seattle’s Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum announced a major Nirvana exhibit this week. “Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses” will run from April 16, 2011 to April 22, 2013, and here is a list of a few of a few artifacts that will be on display, excerpted from the announcement on EMP/SFM’s web site:

• Kurt Cobain’s never-before exhibited, high school painting of two aging, Reagan-era punks in the post-apocalypse, informally known as “punk American gothic.”

Tour the new Supremes exhibit with Motown legend Mary Wilson (video)

On Friday, Mary Wilson of Motown’s legendary Supremes took a few of us media types on a tour of “Reflections: The Mary Wilson Supreme Legacy Collection,” the new exhibit at Seattle’s Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum. EMP/SFM’s ninth annual Pop Conference to focus on technology

Seattle’s EMP/SFM announced that its ninth annual Pop Conference will focus on the gizmos and tech that’s been used to compose popular music over the years, from player pianos to Autotune.

The conference will run from April 15 to 18 this year, with with panels on post-punk reverb, deconstructing Freddie Mercury, Public Enemy’s Bomb Squad and other topics. Bob Rivers’ Lakewood police benefit at EMP/SFM

I’ve got details for one more benefit for the families of slain Lakewood police officers that’s on my radar. This one hosted by Bob Rivers from Seattle’s KZOK-FM (102.5) who has lined up Spike and the Impalers, Sex and Violins and local boys VIII Days Clean for a show set to start at 7 p.m. on Dec. 17 at Seattle’s EMP/SFM.
