Settle down, people! Pearl Jam hiatus rumors officially overblown

Yesterday, speculation that Pearl Jam would be taking an unusually long break – or even hanging it up for good – ran rampant. That was after front man Eddie Vedder’s announcement that the band was going on hiatus during a show in Portugal. But band publicist Nicole Vandenburg dropped me a line to reassure that nothing unusual was going on. And it seems Vedder’s wording – as he addressed the crowd in Portuguese – had something to do with how people read into what he said.

(It’s) nothing serious. He says that at the end

Pearl Jam says good-bye (for now)

Could Pearl Jam’s two-night stand in Seattle last year have been our last shots to see the band for a long, long time? Several sources, including Harms from Seattle’s KNDD-FM (The End, 107.7) in Seattle, are reporting that Pearl Jam is going on hiatus.

The kid’s dad, Jeff Evans, sent us an e-mail about what he calls “a life changing night.” It gave me the warm fuzzies and all, so I thought I’d share it with all of you, too. Here it is.

Today I took my seven (almost eight) year old son to his first concert, of any type. I debated on it, but I really believed that he was ready to have this experience, to have it and hold it, and appreciate it for the rest of his life. He was ready.

Pearl Jam video

I didn’t get approved to shoot video of Pearl Jam last night. But bootleggers don’t need no steenking photo pass. So here’s a clip that reader and fellow blogger-type Bernie Zimmermann uploaded to the ol’ YouTube machine. The video includes “Indifference” and Eddie Vedder talking about Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic. Enjoy it while it lasts (assuming PJ cares about grainy clips of their sets showing up on the Internet.) And check Bernie’s take on last night’s show over here.
