Seattle’s Reggie Watts on Comedy Central

Hey, just noticed Seattle comedian Reggie Watts has a special on Comedy Central early Wednesday morning to promote his new CD/DVD “Why S#!+ So Crazy?” He’s also on the road with Conan O’Brien at the moment. That guy’s really blown up. But remember when his main claim to fame was fronting the band Maktub?

Grit City Bootlegs No. 49: The one, the only … Swampy Draws

So, yesterday I ducked into the Red Hot where I ran into Swampy Draws drummer Mudd Butt Mysterioso (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Mike from Tacoma hardcore band South 11th.) And he tells me last Sunday’s gig at the Spar would be Swampy’s last “for a long time.”

Needless to say, that inspired me to quit slackin’ and finally chop up a couple of clips I shot from a previous gig at the New Frontier Lounge – you know, to tide Swampy’s fans over while he’s on hiatus.

Late-night talk casualty Conan O’Brien is headed to Seattle

Conan O’Brien may have taken a beating during the late night talk wars, having been ousted from NBC-TV’s “Tonight Show” and temporarily barred from appearing elsewhere on the dial.

But look at the bright side. Now he’s got more time to brush up his stand-up act.

“Hey Internet: I’m headed to your town on a half-a**ed comedy & music tour,” O’Brien declared, via Twitter, today.

More specifically, O’Brien’s tour will kick off April 13 in Vancouver, B.C., and include a two-night stand in Seattle, with shows scheduled for 8 p.m. April 18 and

More Charlie Murphy interview clips

Here are a few more clips from my interview with comedian Charlie Murphy, who will headline Seattle’s Moore Theatre on Saturday (March 6):

Charlie Murphy shares the best advice his brother ever gave him …

… comedians who doubted him when he started doing stand-up …

… and the controversy surrounding “We Got to Do Better,” his show on BET.

Charlie Murphy on the demise of “Chappelle’s Show,” a rematch with Prince (audio)

I wrote a preview of comedian Charlie Murphy’s headlining set at Seattle’s Moore Theatre on Saturday night for tomorrow’s GO section. Meanwhile, you can click the links to hear Charlie talking about the demise of “Chappelle’s Show” (a couple of guesses at who Comedy Central wanted to step in for Dave) and who would win a hoops rematch with Prince. On that second on you get on of Charlie Murphy’s really true Hollywood stories.

Martin Lawrence tickets go on sale Saturday

Comedian Martin Lawrence will headline Seattle’s Paramount Theatre on March 12, promoter Live Nation announced.

Lawrence was one of the most popular comedians of the ‘90s, known for appearances on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam,” his sitcom “Martin” and in “Bad Boys,” the “House Party” movies and other blockbusters. But by that the latter half of the decade the embattled superstar had also became known for erratic public behavior, a sexual harassment suit filed by “Martin” co-star Tisha Campbell and for nearly dying from heat exhaustion while running in 100-degree weather in 1999.

From David Cross to Katy Perry, more scenes from Bumbershoot 2009

Comedian David Cross: "You know what I hate worse than a pedophile? A racist pedophile. That's just ignorant!" Cross read just enough from his new book "I Drink for a Reason" to qualify for Bumbershoot's literary stage at Bagley Wright Theatre, but mostly did standup with a little help from his friends. Here he and "Daily Show" correspondent Wyatt Cenac rock the "Bumberkeys." Had to be there. (Photo by Ernest Jasmin)
Comedian David Cross: “You know what I hate worse than a pedophile? A racist pedophile. That’s just ignorant!” Cross, one of Sunday’s hottest attractions at Bumbershoot, read just enough from his new book “I Drink for a Reason” to qualify for the literary stage at Bagley Wright Theatre, but mostly did standup with a little help from his friends. Here he and “Daily Show” correspondent Wyatt Cenac rock the “Bumberkeys.” Uh, you had to be there.

Comedians Doug Benson and Maria Bamford also delivered hilarious sets, with Benson notably localizing a joke about a street preacher demanding to know if he was going to Hell. “No, but it’s on the way if you need a lift,” he said. “We are going to Puyallup.” (Photo by Ernest Jasmin)
