More Bomba Estereo video from Bumbershoot

That last video I posted of Columbia’s Bomba Estereo performing at Bumbershoot got a pretty good response, so here’s another one. This is how the band kicked it’s set off, with “Elegancia Tropical” and “Pa’ Ti.” Singer Liliana Saumet’s vocals get lost in the mix here and there, but it’s still a pretty fun.

On a side note, I sadly don’t have footage of the band’s set-ending remake of Technotronics’ “Pump Up the Jam.” May have to look for fan clips later.

Video interview with Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime (a.k.a. Dudley Perkins)

I’ve followed singer/rapper Georgia Anne Muldrow for a couple of years and, like Mos Def, I’m smitten with her uplifting neo-soul ballad “Roses” (a cut Mos remade for his his last album, “The Ecstatic.”)

I was looking forward to her set Sunday with Declaime (a.k.a. rapper Dudley Perkins) more than just about any other act at Bumbershoot. And I even got to hang out for a minute. In the interview clip below, the couple talks about their heartfelt brand of hip-hop and why they rebel against trends that land other artists

Sexual violence as comedy (some Bumbershoot video you won’t see here)

I knew next to nada about underground hip-hop phenomenon Jay Electronica before his performance Saturday at Bumbershoot. I showed up, shot some video from the photo pit and thought I might get crushed after he invited fans to hop over the barricade and jump on stage with him.

But the most cringe-worthy part of the performance involved the J.E. describing a supposed $20,000 bet he made with Nas and some other rapper (forget which one) regarding whether women enjoy being choked during sex. I won’t go into too much detail or repeat the punch line here, but needless to say it wasn’t exactly comedic gold.

Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime at Bumbershoot 2010 (video)

Winding down an awesome day two at Bumbershoot 2010, and here’s a sampling of Georgia Anne Muldrow & Declaime, the act I was most looking forward to seeing at the festival all weekend. This how their set got underway at Fisher Green, but stay tuned and I’ll have some interview footage to share from earlier in the afternoon.

Ozomatli at Bumbershoot 2010 (video)

Bob Dylan is a living legend, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century. These days, though, his growly vocals sound a lot more like Redd Fox than they used to on songs like “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right.” Having seen the icon one and a half times, I decided to head over to the Fisher Green stage and sample a bit of L.A. funk fusion act Ozomatli, which I had never seen before. I didn’t regret my decision. But I hear I also missed a killer

The Constellations at Bumbershoot 2010 (video)

One of the most fun things about Bumbershoot every year is getting to know knew bands you otherwise would never have bothered to check out. And among my discoveries at this year’s festival is The Constellations, a hip-hop/funk crew from Atlanta, GA that rocked the Fisher Green stage on Saturday afternoon. Here a clip from early in their performance.
