Air America host Ron Reagan on papa Reagan and pundits that invoke his name

Politics don’t normally fall on my beat here at the Trib, the occasional interview with Tom Morello or Chuck D aside. But radio does, and recently I took a trip up to the studios of Seattle’s KPTK-AM (1090) to hang out with talk show host Ron Reagan, whose Ron Reagan show is taking off in Air America markets across the country. And of course I had to ask about the late papa Ron Reagan. Here’s a bit of that conversation, and you’ll be able to check out a related feature I wrote

The Supersuckers’ Eddie Spaghetti turns rock jock

You know, I was meaning to post something on this announcement over the weekend, but it slipped my mind as I was fooling around with my Girl Trouble bootlegs. By “this Monday” ol’ Eddie Spaghetti actually means yesterday, by the way. So you can tune in tomorrow morning to hear the guy, who will be on the air through Friday (March 20).

From the Supersuckers fan letter:

We here at Supersuckers Industries are pleased to announce the network broadcasting debut of none other than our very own Mr. Eddie Spaghetti! That’s

Shock jock apocalypse: Tom Leykis, Adam Carolla shows axed

I was listening to a radio show early this morning that mentioned Tom Leykis being fired. After calling Leykis’ producer Gary Zabransky and going to voicemail, I checked The Los Angeles-based shock jock’s web site. And it said that today’s episode of the Tom Leykis Show will, indeed, feature the final installment of Leykis 101, the on air class for men about “how to get the most tail for the least amount of money.”

The web site for KISW-FM (99.9), which has aired Leykis since 2005, confirmed the show’s end with this explanation:

KPLU-FM (88.5) announces two new director hires

Local jazz and blues station KPLU-FM (88.5) announced a couple of big management changes this week.

Jennifer Strachan was named the station’s director of public media earlier this week, a position she’ll take over on Sept. 4. And today, long-time KPLU program host, producer, and former music director Nick Morrison was announced as the station’s new production director, a post he’ll fill beginning Sept. 2.

Strachan, a Gig Harbor resident, most recently served as the director of programming and production at Tacoma’s KBTC-TV. She was also the executive director of KBTC’s local documentary series,

Something I heard about Bad Religion

I heard a rumor this weekend about Bad Religion headlining Endfest. Nothing up on their web site yet. And that hasn’t been confirmed with KNDD-FM (The End, 107.7). We’ll see if it’s true when the Seattle station makes it’s big announcement in the days ahead.

Lazlo to step down as The End’s program director to focus on “Church”

Lazlo will soon be replaced as program director at Seattle’s KNDD-FM (The End, 107.7). He’s making the move to focus on his radio show “The Church of Lazlo,” which airs from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, according to an e-mailed press release issued by The End’s parent company Entercom afternoon.

If you miss Robin and Maynard …

… then you’ll want to check out a 42-minute podcast that the dynamic radio duo recorded for the Christmas in the Northwest Web site. The podcast – which features show regulars Roy Otis, Officer Lee Groinman and others – will be in rotation with songs from the first 10 "Christmas in the Northwest" CDs, today through Sunday. Proceeds from the CDs benefit Children’s Hospital every year.

Robin Erickson and John Maynard were, of course, staples of Northwest radio for more than two decades on KQBZ-FM (100.7, currently KKWF-FM, the Wolf), KISW-FM (99.9), KZOK-FM (102.5) and the defunct
