Lady Gaga fashion: Vote on 16 of her best looks

“Fashion is everything,” Lady Gaga once told MTV. “When I’m writing music, I’m thinking about the clothes I want to wear on stage. It’s all about everything altogether — performance art, pop performance art, fashion. For me, it’s everything coming together and being a real story that will bring back the super-fan. I want to bring that back. I want the imagery to be so strong that fans will want to eat and taste and lick every part of us.”

Well, we don’t know if you need to be that into Gaga when her Monster Ball Tour takes over the Tacoma Dome on Aug. 21. Rushing the stage and licking stuff will get you tossed in the clink. Or at least put on Thorazine.

But one thing’s for sure. The Gaga has parlayed with her bizarre sense of style and penchant for shocking people, from rockin’ that Kermit the Frog stole in Germany, to meeting the Queen of England dressed like an extra from “The Watchmen” and more recently showing up in the pages of Vogue Hommes Japan looking, quite convincingly, like a dude. (There was even debate about whether dashing model “Jo Calderone” was actually her.)

So who knows what she’ll turn up in next week? But in honor of pop’s premier chameleon, we’ve compiled a gallery of some of her most striking looks. Hit the “more” button below to check it out and vote on your favorites. Then you can also help us deconstruct the whole Lady Gaga phenomenon. Whether you’re infatuated or “p-p-poker face” makes you want to p-p-punch somebody, e-mail your thoughts on what makes Gaga tick. Send your name, hometown and contact info to ernest.jasmin@thenewstribune.com and I’ll use some of the best comments in next week’s GO.

Local response to Michael Jackson’s death

By now, you probably know that Michael Jackson has died. Here’s a local reaction story I’m working on for tomorrow’s paper.

Puget Sound’s music fans and local media reacted to the death of pop trailblazer Michael Jackson Thursday afternoon.

News that the 50-year-old performer had gone into cardiac arrest spread virally, with many receiving the news from Twitter or text message.

Others tuned into local music stations KUBE-FM (93.3) and KBKS-FM (Kiss, 106.1), which kept the King of Pop’s hits in heavy rotation. And over on KPTK-AM (1090), even Seattle pundit Ron Reagan shifted from talk of universal health care to take calls about the pop star’s demise.

Beyonce redeemed

Was meaning to post this follow-up to the Beyonce scandal post. But it appears the clip of her supposedly singing a hideously off-key version of “If I Were a Boy” on the Today Show was a hoax – perpetrated by one of her fans, no less. (Not sure if that’ll keep lawyers from getting involved.) Click here for the Rolling Stone report. And I, for one, will remain on the lookout for lip-syncing fakers. Word!

Britney’s sexy Circus has come to town

Britney’s back!

Forget all the head shaving, fly-by-night marriages, racy paparazzi shots and other acts of public lunacy. The pop princess has her game face back on. And her comeback tour – Circus Starring Britney Spears, featuring opening act Pussycat Dolls – will bring big-time spectacle to the Tacoma Dome beginning at 8 p.m. tonight.

&bull PHOTO GALLERY: Britney Spears

For her first area tour stop since the Onyx Hotel tour five years ago (a lifetime in pop terms) fans should expect some serious "ooh ahhh" factor, with acrobats, magicians and a whole team of dancers.

Prince to deliver three albums in ’09

Those who have followed his Purpleness over the years know he doesn’t like to be confined to that whole “release a disc every 18 months” schedule most major labels seem to favor. And lo and behold, he’s tossin’ three new albums our way in ’09. They’ll be dubbed “Lotus Flow3r,” “MPLSOUND” and “Elixir,” according to Rolling Stone’s report.
