Mastodon + Metalocalypse = insanely awesome!

Mastodon will join forces with with Dethklok, from Cartoon Network’s “Metalocalypse,” for a tour that will drop in on Seattle’s WaMu Theater on Oct. 3, the bands announced today.

Mastodon is riding high from their newest, most critically acclaim and most prog-rock influenced album to date, “Crack the Skye.”

Find audio of Mastodon’s Troy Sanders talking about the making of “Skye” here or check out a recap of Mastodon’s set at Neumo’s in April over here.

The flesh and blood version of Dethklok – the band from Cartoon

3 Inches of Blood to unleash “Doom,” launch tour in September

They may be Canadian and all, eh. But we can at least adopt 3 Inches of Blood as honorary Tacomans. After all, our favorite Dungeons & Dragons obsessed thrash-metal band lived here for a spell while worked on their “Fire Up the Blades,” which came out in ’07.

And now details have emerged on their follow up, “Here Waits Thy Doom,” which is scheduled to hit stores on Sept. 8, according the band’s publicist. (Yes, their post-Ozzfest reality includes having a bonafide publicist.)

And pull those plastic swords and viking helmets from the back

Is Guns N’ Roses headed to Qwest Field?

Maybe. Not that I’ve heard anything specific, mind you. Just read Rolling Stone’s report on a possible stadium tour with the G N’ R 2.0. Their story features this quote from manager Irving Azoff about the reclusive and “misunderstood” Axl Rose:

"Axl has been basically quiet, keeping out of the limelight for almost 15 years. People think they know him but they only really only know what has been said about him by questionable people. He is a good guy and often misunderstood — he is a professional who has worked very hard to build and

Metallica preview

Robert Trujillo, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett rock out Saturday night at Portland’s Rosegarden; a partial set list which all you diehard fans should be able to translate.

ERNEST A. JASMIN

Bizarre tour routing inspired me to go check out the new Metallica tour at Portland’s Rosegarden last night, exactly one month before it drops in on KeyArena in Seattle. The band’s new album “Death Magnetic,” has been billed as a return to the veteran outfit’s ’80s thrash roots, and it was well-represented last

Mastodon’s Troy Sanders gets ready for Mayhem Fest, describes “dark and creepy” new songs

Will the Mayhem Festival pick up where Ozzfest left off? We’ll have a good idea Wednesday (July 9) when the massive metal tour kicks off at Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre with a lineup that includes Disturbed, Slipknot, Dragonforce, Mastodon, Machine Head and more on multiple stages.

I’m most excited to see Atlanta prog-metal outfit Mastodon, especially after learning that the band is in the studio with producer Brendan O’Brien this week and may unveil new songs. Singer-bassist Troy Sanders phoned in just before yesterday’s recording session to give me the skinny on the sound his

Chinese Democracy

Honestly, I’m beyond caring if the “Chinese Democracy” album ever comes out. And I’ll believe that Axl Rose and “Guns N Roses” are done with their years in the making masterpiece when I see it. But there’s this over on the NME site, in case you wanted to go looking for a good torrent site. And who knows? Maybe Axl got inspired when Portishead finally got their act together.

New Slayer disc, tour planned for ’08

This was buried deep within a press release about the band’s latest Grammy nod. The quote is from one Tom Araya:

Right after the New Year, Slayer plans to start working on new material for their eleventh studio album, intended for a 2008 release, and will tour the world to support it. “I’m excited to see where the new music will go, how it’s going to sound, what the total writing and recording experience will be like. I’m sure it will be like the one for ‘Christ Illusion’ – great!”

3 Inches of Blood drummer gets kicked to the curb

Canadian metal band and occasional Tacoma residents 3 Inches of Blood have kicked drummer Alexei Rodriguez out of the band after an apparent scuffle with the group Saxon, according to a leaked apology letter that you can read on rock gossip and news site Blabbermouth.net.

And today 3IB posted this response to the matter becoming public on MySpace:

If you’ve heard about the fiasco we’ve been through in England then just be aware that the letter we wrote to Saxon was never intended not to be posted all over the world wide

Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx talks “Heroin Diaries,” recovery and Sixx A.M. (but not about Tommy Lee gettin’ punched in his melon)

Motley Crue’s infamously debaucherous bassist and closet renaissance man Nikki Sixx will be in Seattle signing copies of his new book “The Heroin Diaries” on Saturday. Scroll down this page for relevant venues, times and phone numbers. And then check out a few clips I culled from a couple of interviews I did with the guy.

Part 1: Growing up in Seattle

Part 2: He didn’t “dish” anybody in his book

Part 3: Recovery and what’s important now

Part 4: His new band, clothing line and
