Favorite albums of 2010

10. “This is Happening” LCD Soundsystem

LCD continues to make electronic music with heart, and they let their Talking Heads influences bubble to the surface on quirky cuts like “One Touch” and “Pow Pow” (a definite plus.) “Drunk Girls” was both my favorite pop single and video of the year.

Favorite concerts of 2010 (so far)

Don’t be surprised if I amend this top 10 list after Tacoma’s garage-rock heroes, the Sonics, rock Oly’s Capitol Theater on New Year’s Eve. But here are my favorite concerts of 2010 so far.

10. Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Thanksgiving Comedy Show (Nov. 27, Pantages Theatre): Lacey comedian Nate Jackson has built a great Thursday night over at Tacoma’s Varsity Grill. And this urban comedy showcase- featuring the up-and-coming talent of Vincent Oshana, Cocoa Brown and Tony Roberts – was a nice coup for Tacoma. Not that I can quote any of the material. But look for Roberts to make waves in 2011.

Jubal Flagg headed to Movin’ 92.5

Comedian and Seattle radio personality Jubal Flagg is movin’ … to Movin’.

Today, Seattle’s KQMV-FM (Movin’, 92.5) announced that Flagg has defected from KBKS-FM (Kiss, 106.1) – where listeners have heard him on the Jackie and Bender Show for the last 6 ½ years – to co-host their morning drive show with Brooke Fox. Flagg will make his debut on Movin’ around the first of the year, according to this morning’s announcement.

Legend of Bigfoot go for three straight wins on KISW-FM’s Cockfight tonight

Legend of Bigfoot is the latest Tacoma area band to do damage on the Cockfight, the weekly rock rumble royale that airs Monday nights on Seattle’s KISW-FM (99.9).

LOB is going for their third straight victory for “Humanoids,” captured on video below during one of the band’s first ever performances at Bob’s Java Jive. (That whole show is still posted as Grit City Bootlegs No. 25 over here.)

KISW will announce the challenger on air in a few minutes, at 6 p.m. Voting opens around 9:10 p.m. after DJ Jolene spins both
