Comedian Nate Jackson calls Tony Roberts “the funniest man in America,” and I’m not inclined to argue. I figured the guy would be huge – potentially Dave Chappelle huge – within a year or two after I first sampled his spontaneous, rapid-fire delivery on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” a few months ago. His “B—-, Where You Been” bit: Classic!

In August, Roberts brought his stand-up to Tacoma where he killed at Jackson’s weekly, Thursday night gig at the Varsity Grill. And in a few days he’ll be back for Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Thanksgiving Comedy Show, which will also bring Vincent Oshana and Cocoa Brown to Broadway Center’s Rialto Theater Saturday night (ticket info here.)

That was a good excuse to give Roberts a ring at home in L.A. The conversation started with what he’s been up to since his hit Showtime special “Tony Roberts: Wired.” And you can click the links below to hear the comedian talk about …

… projects he’s had in development with Jamie Foxxx, VH1 and others.

… how he got started in comedy and what role model helped him develop his spontaneous, rapid-fire style.

… a surprising confession that’s behind all that manic energy.

… and how he’s taking submissions for “You Need Your A– Beat” (one of his popular bits.)
