Alice in Chains, Mastodon and the Deftones have joined forces for the BlackDiamondSkye tour, which will drop by Seattle’s KeyArena on Friday. And someone will be notably missed during the Deftones’ set, with bassist Chi Cheng still sidelined nearly two years after the accident that put him into a coma in November 2008.

Recently, I caught up with Deftones singer-guitarist Chino Moreno for a story that will run in Friday’s GO section. Meanwhile, here are a few clips from that interview with Moreno discussing …

… how his band wound up on BlackDiamondSkye and his friendship with Alice in Chains.

… what happened to the “Eros,” the album his band was working on when Cheng had his accident.

… how Cheng is doing and how the Deftones are paying tribute to him in concert.

By the way, you can find the One Love for Chi site that Moreno mentions here. The clip below is from a documentary on what happened to the bassist, and you can find parts two through four on the Whosoevers’ YouTube page.
