A few events worth checking out in the week to come.
Music and Art in Wright Park benefit show
Earplugs are not optional on Saturday. At least not if you want your ears to survive the epic metal sludge and hardcore mayhem that Mico de Noche and C.F.A. will unleash on Tacoma’s New Frontier Lounge. The bands are looking to raise about $2,500 to help finance the MAWP festival, which will also feature the F-ing Eagles, Gold Teeth, Lozen, Girl Trouble and more on Aug. 21 at Wright Park.
Redneck Parking Lot Party 2
Local country big shot Jonathan Harris drew about 800 to the first installment of the monthly parking lot party at Big Whisky Saloon, 100 S. Ninth St., in Tacoma. The follow up promises to be just as rowdy, with beer, barbecue, horseshoes and a mechanical bull starting at 4 p.m. Saturday and the Nathan Arneson Band (9 p.m.) and Robbie Walden & the Gunslingers providing live tunes, 9 an 11 p.m., respectively. Admission is free before 6 and 10 bucks after that; 253-272-0777 for details.
Your little hoodrat friends
I’ve caught the Hold Steady at the University of Washington HUB Ballroom and, more recently, at the Gorge Amphitheatre’s Sasquatch! music festival in May. And now front man Craig Finn’s rowdy tales of drug-fueled debauchery (and the occasional murder) are headed right where they belong – to a dark, beer-soaked bar. The Showbox at the Market, to be more specific, where the Minnesota-bred rockers will headline an all-ages show with support from Jaill. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $22, more details here.
