I had a million things to ask Spearhead leader, Michael Franti, a musician I’ve admired for years.
How did it feel to have a smash hit with “Say Hey (I Love You)” after more than two decades in the biz? What inspired him to head to Iraq and the Gaza Strip to film his moving anti-war doc “I Know I’m Not Alone?” And what’s up with him never wearing shoes? (He hasn’t, for the most part, for more than a decade.)
But then bonehead John Mayer started dropping n-bombs, and everyone was talking about his infamous Playboy interview the morning Franti called. Seeing as he’ll open for Mayer Wednesday at KeyArena, I had to ask.
Previously, I posted a transcript of his response. But now you can click here and hear it for yourself.
Time willin’, I’ll have some more clips of Franti talking about his music and the documentary before the cover story I wrote for GO hits the steets in the a.m.
