Julia Ilowiecki at the Stonegate Friday

The web site for new South Tacoma Way rock club and pizza joint, the Stonegate, isn’t quite up to speed yet. But owner Jeff Call tells me he’s got New York singer-songwriter Julia Ilowiecki headlining Friday night (Nov. 20) with support from locals Andrew Vait and Olivia de la Cruz. Check out Ilowiecki’s “Anchors” video below. Then try to say “Ilowiecki” three times, fast.

And in a loosely related matter, here’s an old video of the Fun Police without their cop get-ups. It’s

Grit City Bootlegs No. 39: The Fun Police CD release party (video)

Q: When is it actually good to have the police crash your party?

A: When they’re Tacoma’s Fun Police. They’ll get the festivities all regulated, yo!

These videos come from the band’s CD release party last Friday at the new South Tacoma Way nightclub, the Stonegate. Apologies since my normally reliable camera loses a lot of the vocals in the mix. KUPS wins an MTVu Woodie Award

Hey, remember how Tacoma’s KUPS-FM (90.1) was up for best college radio station in this year’s MTVu Woodie Awards? Well, the University of Puget Sound station can now report victory, having gotten the call from MTVu and a visit from former MTV celebrity VJ Matt Pinfield today.

See who KUPS was up against here. And I guess this means you can pick up the station more than a few blocks away from campus now? Cool!
