That’s all, folks. Last night was it for Hell’s Kitchen’s Sixth Avenue location. Click the video clip above for snippets of Hell’s Belles, the last rock band to grace the stage at HK v. 1.0.
The good news is that co-owner and bar manager Casey Kraft assured me that he and his crew were on schedule for a December re-opening at 928 Pacific Ave. But last night it was time to rock out in the old space one more time and to reminisce about memories from the Kitchen’s seven-year run.
I, for one, have seen tons of great performances there: Flipper, the Melvins, Reverend Horton Heat and KRS-One to name a few. But I pinpointed my No. 1 Hell’s Kitchen memory to kickin’ it with Fishbone back in ’05. I hadn’t seen those guys in a while and was surprised by frontman Angelo Edwards’ funky theremin skills. (No, really.) But the fun part was hanging out with the band after their set, an experience made all the more special by the fact that they opened the very first concert I ever attended.
Several years and hundreds of shows later, Norwood introduced me to the wonders of Patron – just before he passed out at the bar. Good times! But enough about my memories. Leave some of your favorite memories in the comments section.
I realise this isn’t a very good comment but it made me smile!
There are no short cuts to any place worth going.
