EMI announces new Alice in Chains app

I’m not super obsessed with collecting the latest phone apps, especially since I’m stuck with my craptastic Blackberry Storm for a few more months. But for all the cool kids that are into that stuff, EMI has announcement a forthcoming Alice in Chains app, due tomorrow, that’s supposed to do all sorts of crazy stuff.

Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones taking Them Crooked Vultures to Seattle

There’s been buzz aplenty this fall about Them Crooked Vultures, the super-group featuring Nirvana’s Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. And now the band’s publicist has announced a couple of Northwest dates for the highly anticipated band.

South Sound Superstar: Maple Valley’s Brandi Carlile, joyfully headlining Seattle’s Paramount Theatre Saturday.

I’d still rank Brandi Carlile’s concert last year at Benaroya Hall a notch or two higher than Saturday night’s homecoming set at the Paramont Theatre. Mostly little things set that show apart, like the acoustics at Benaroya being more conducive to going unplugged and mike-less for “Dying Day” (lots of shushing this time); a set list that featured more of Brandi’s self-titled debut, which is still my favorite of her three albums. Oh, and no Symphony this time, though cello player Josh Newman held his own as the one-man string section during most of the set.

Grit City bootlegs No. 33: Scenes from Top of Tacoma’s birthday bash (video)

Last night, Top of Tacoma celebrated two years of being McKinley Hill’s hippest destination. And the Top had a little help from a couple of T-town’s hottest bands, Revengers and the F-ing Eagles. Apologies in advance for the dark footage, but these clips will still give you an idea of what went down if you missed it.

Brandi Carlile talks “Give Up the Ghost,” smiling Dobermans (audio)

Maple Valley’s Brandi Carlile delivered my favorite performance of 2008, a breathtaking set with Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall last November. So if you’re like me you’re stoked to see her again Saturday (Oct. 24) at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre.

Some of you may have already checked out a related sound bite I posted from my interview with Brandi talking about Elton John and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith appearing on her new “Give Up the Ghost” album. Click the link if you haven’t, or check out these new clips with her talking

Country star Tim McGraw is headed to the KeyArena on May 21, 2010, his first local appearance since the infamous “Tim McBrawl” incident at Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre.

Lady Antebellum and Love and Theft will add support.

[Note: An earlier version of this post said McGraw was headed to the Tacoma Dome based on the tour itinerary initially posted here.

Grit City Bootlegs No. 32: The Color of East (video)

You know, I debated posting a clip of Tacoma’s the Color of East that I shot earlier this month at the New Frontier Lounge. I’m learning that while the Flip Ultra HD has decent picture quality, it doesn’t exactly have the greatest microphone for bootleggin’.

Grit City Bootlegs No. 31: Church of Hate (video)

Tomorrow, I’m back in the office after a few days off, but couldn’t wait to post new content. Here’s a clip of Tacoma’s uber scary Church of Hate shot during a recent set at Station 56. You know, just to get you all primed for Halloween and all.
