Sasquatch top five

Just got back from the Gorge a little while ago. And after I hit the showers to scrub off a few layers of grime and sunblock, I’ll be able to sort throught my photos from last night’s Beastie Boys and Interpol sets. Check back later.

Meanwhile, here’s my top five favorite acts from this year’s festival. If you went hit me up with your own favorite moments:

Sasquatch 2007 top five performances:

1. Beastie Boys: What can I say? They’re the Rolling Stones of rap, and they’ve still got it. Loved the suits and

Another Sasquatch update about (surprise, surprise) bad weather

You know you can’t go a year without a Sasquatch weather story, right? Right? Two years ago it was oppressive heat. Last year it was hail and lightning. And this year it’s (wait for it, wait for it) wind. And just a little while ago, the Polyphonic Spree’s main stage set was cut short because those gusts were making the rigging overhead sway in a really menacing way.

They plan to go on after the Beastie Boys, probably around midnight. We’re all awaiting word on whether Spoon or any of the other main stagers get called off. I

Arcade Fire and Bjork at Sasquatch

A few notes on Sasquatch so far:

Having only seen the Arcade Fire once – at Sasquatch a couple of years ago – I still had the band filed under "pretty good but slightly pretentious and overrated." Yeah, I’ve got a file for that. But last night’s set made me a believer. Such a passionate delivery; and the day’s most moving and invigorating moments was when thousands of fans wailed along to the refrain from "Wake Up." Powerful stuff.

And in keeping with the themes on this year’s "Neon Bible" album, front man Win Butler dedicated

Local men win “American Idol” songwriting contest

If you were watching “Idol” last night you know that locals Jeff Peabody and Scott Krippayne won the show’s songwriting contest with their number “This Is My Now.” Peabody is the pastor of New Day Church, which meets at Meeker Middle School in Tacoma. And Krippayne is a member of that congregation and a Christian rock musician who you may have heard on KCMS-FM (Spirit, 105.3.)

The duo’s song was deemed the best out of 25,000 entries. "They’re very talented,” said Ming Ming Su-Brown of Tacoma, who attends New Day. “Our pastor is so incredibly

Tim McGraw on upcoming movie role, label

Considering Tim McGraw’s status as both country superstar and sex symbol, it was all but inevitable that the guy would cross over onto the silver screen. (Hey, rappers have all the fun?) He’s managed to squeeze a few roles into his busy touring and recording schedule since he appeared in “Friday Night Lights” in 2004.

When I caught up with him on Friday, we mostly talked about the upcoming Soul II Soul tour, which will bring he and wife Faith Hill to the Tacoma Dome on June 14. But an upcoming movie role also came up,
