Booty, booty, booty, booty rockin’ everywhere!!!

There was no escaping Bubba Sparxxx’s massive club hit “Ms. New Booty” last year. And the crowd at the South Sound Garage will hear it at least one more time as the Senor Sparxxx headlines tonight. So earlier this week I caught up with the rap star, who was totally down to earth and surprisingly frank when we talked about …

… the motivation for making “Ms. New Booty.”

… the pressure to repeat.

… bubba vs. duuuuuuude.

… representin’

“Grey’s Anatomy’s” house band

It’s official. Brandi Carlile is to "Grey’s Anatomy" as Death Cab for Cutie was to "The O.C." "Grey’s" has featured the Maple Valley singer-songwriter’s music before. And during Friday night’s acoustic performance at the Triple Door (which was phenomenal, by the way) Carlile announced that an upcoming episode would feature the title track from her new album "The Story," which is due in stores Tuesday. So tune in and listen up.

Naked snow angels, smiling dogs and Brandi Carlile’s rad new album

I had a blast last week hanging out with Maple Valley singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile – the main attraction tomorrow night at the Triple Door – twin writing partners Tim and Phil Hanseroth and drummer Nathan Brown, who was actually auditioning for a spot in the band. (No word yet on whether he’ll be on board tomorrow.) We munched on chicken satay at a restaurant near their rehearsal space in Ballard, covering everything from the making of Carlile’s new album, “The Story” – due from Columbia on Tuesday – to fishing (one of Brandi’s favorite pasttimes) and naked snow

Yes!!! More Blood!!! Graaaaghh!!!

No, I’m not giving in to homicidal thoughts. Yet. Idol Management’s Don Robertson actually just sent me a link to footage of Slipknot’s Joey Jordison sitting in with sometime Tacoma residents 3 Inches of Blood. Check it out here. And in case you were wondering, Robertson tells me the new 3IB disc – which Jordison is producing – is due from Roadrunner Records on June 26.

Huh? How’d that happen?

First it was shocking to see Modest Mouse on MTV. Then it was shocking to see Modest Mouse in heavy rotation on MTV and on various talk and award shows. And now it’s a possible sign of the Apocalypse that the Issaquah-bred, Portland-based band’s new album “We Were Already Dead Before the Ship Sank” debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200! Did you think you’d ever read a sentence like that five, 10 years ago? And to put it in context, check out a funny Rolling Stone peice on the phenomenon here.

Manson and other big tour news

This is the time of year when big concert announcements come in droves. And aside from my previous posts on Justin Timberlake and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul 2 Soul redux deal, here are a few more shows to look forward to:

- The scariest tour of the summer is sure to be Slayer/Marilyn Manson bill, with those malevolent forces joining for a tour that’s set to kick off on July 25 on the East Coast, according to an annoucement from Slayer publicist Heidi Ellen Robinson-Fitzgerald.

- Morissey’s dates, announced Monday, are more firm. They included

TV on the Radio, Subtle set

Having seen several brilliant performances from TV on the Radio, I knew to expect great things from the Brooklyn quintet last night at the Moore. And I also had pretty high hopes for the Bay Area’s Subtle, a genre blurring outfit I’d been fascinated with since a copy of its 2004 album “New White” landed in my inbox. The group blends several styles – hip-hop, prog rock, funk, jazz – in really interesting (and often bizarre) ways. And lead by vocalist Adam “Doseone” Drucker – as entertaining a front man as I’ve seen all year – they didn’t disappoint.
