Critics iPod (vol. 2)

Another installment of Critic’s iPod, just to give you an idea of what kind of music really melts my butter — you know, when this publication isn’t actually paying me to listen:

“Bitch” The Rolling Stones: I’ve had Stones on the brain since I just saw them Tuesday at Qwest Field. And this track from “Sticky Fingers” has been my favorite of theirs since I saw them play it last year at KeyArena. I love that that they mix things up so much with every performance and that they toss in a couple

Brooks & Dunn report with set lists

Ahh, oooh hooo! Play something different.

Brooks & Dunn brought their "Hillbilly Deluxe" tour to the Tacoma Dome Thursday night, that trek’s second local stop. But if you only witnessed last year’s show at Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre, you pretty much got the gist of what went down last night, too.

Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn shuffled their hits around a bit. But with a decade and a half’s worth of material to choose from, the dynamic duo’s 85-minute set was still pretty similar to last year’s.

It was again book-ended by the nostalgic innocence

Rolling Stones set list

Just got back from the Stones show at Qwest Field. They changed their set quite a bit since they played KeyArena last year. They did the floating stage thing again. They had giant inflatable lips, plenty of pyro and a cameo from opener Dave Matthews. It was all that and a bag o’ grits.

It’ll be a few hours yet until my full review shows up on the TNT’s main Web page. Meanwhile, here’s the set list to whet your appetites. And if you went, feel free to leave comments regarding what you thought. Cheers!

Agh! Someone please make Diddy stop!

It was pretty hilarious watching P. Diddy – excuse me, just Diddy — haze all those sorry pop wanna bes on "Making the Band." Almost fun enough that – along with his five year break between solo albums – you can almost forget that He of the Increasingly Silly Stage Names has forged an empire out of spitting lukewarm rhymes over ’80s pop classics. (You know, and having a martyred rapper on his label’s roster.)

Then I got my hands on his new album, "Press Play," which came out today. And he doesn’t even wait two seconds. It’s right

Your favorite albums of 2006 (so far)

As mentioned in my column Friday (which you can read here) I have a ton of albums to catch up on before I figure out my year end best albums list. So I’m curious to hear what you all like. Post your top 5 and share them with other readers of this blog. And, you know, help me do my homework.

Plus, I’m curious about two other things: What do you think is the most overrated band of 2006? And who gave the worst performance you saw this year? Discuss.

Baby metal

Lately, several CDs from a new “Lullaby Renditions” series have arrived in my mail slot. They’re put out by Baby Rock Records, a label that adapts the music of several popular bands for the purpose of soothing your infant to sleep, including the sounds of — get this — Tool!

Yes, that Tool. The band behind “Prison Sex” and “Enima.” And that second one ain’t about what to do when your little person is constipated.

For the morbidly curious, who are dying to know what a lullaby version of “Sober” sounds like, click here.

Roger Waters report and set list

You’ll have to excuse me if any of this report from last night’s Roger Waters concert is incoherent. I still quite possibly have a contact high from the copious amounts of hash the guys next to me smoked during the "Dark Side of the Moon" portion of the show.

Occupational hazard, I guess, especially when you’re talking about going to see the main brain behind Pink Floyd, a band that’s been worshipped by stoners and laser light show promoters alike — at least since "Dark Side" hit record stores 33 years ago.

The anticipation was palpable

Lady Sov’s missing gear

Lady Sov: The biggest midget in the game.

LADYSOVEREIGN.COM

I’ve sung Lady Sovereign’s praises ad nauseum in 2006. And by now you’ve probably caught wind of the hype that precedes her full-length debut “Public Warning,” which is due from Def Jam on Halloween. She’s British. She’s a half pint. She spits hot fire, and Jay-Z is her biggest fan.

Well, Tuesday, I got to have a proper conversation with the S.O.V. when she called from London. (We actually met briefly in front of the Showbox after her

This totally made my day

I just read that PJ Harvey is headed back into the studio to record the follow up to 2004′s “Uh Huh Her.” You can find more details on her Web site here.
