Sumner City Council to review YMCA agreement as organization pursues new site for facility

Residents from Sumner, Bonney Lake and the surrounding areas have long hoped for a YMCA facility, and an announcement this week indicates the long wait could be nearing an end.

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties announced Thursday that it is pursuing a new location in Sumner for a facility that has been in the works for five years.

The Y has received nearly $7.8 million in community donations for the project, which will increase in scope if the City Council approves terms linked to a new proposed site of about 10 acres near 64th Street

Girls Night Out event in Sumner to raise money for YMCA

Windmill Gardens in Sumner is hosting its spring Girls Night Out event to raise money for an effort to bring a YMCA to the city. The fundraiser is Friday, April 19, 6-9 p.m.

Sumner Mayor Dave Enslow said Wednesday that he will be in attendance in black-tie and tuxedo for the event, which is sponsored by the Rotary Club.

Some of the event’s offerings include wine tastings, appetizers from the Windmill Bistro and a silent auction, as well as live entertainment from the popular a cappella group The Coats.
