City Council member Dumas files to challenge Enslow for mayor of Sumner

Sumner City Council member Nancy Dumas has filed to run against Incumbent Mayor Dave Enslow, according to the Pierce County elections website.

Dumas, who was elected to the council in 2011, filed Wednesday afternoon. She said she decided to run to give Sumner residents a choice for their mayor.

“I firmly believe a candidate should never run unopposed,” she said Wednesday.

Dumas said she committed to serve the community for four years, and said she will finish out her term proudly if a mayor bid doesn’t work out.

Sumner council member announces mayoral candidacy during meeting in apparent violation of city rules, state election laws

Sumner City Councilman Randy Hynek announced at a televised council meeting that he plans to challenge incumbent Mayor Dave Enslow in the November election.

The announcement, which Hynek shared at the April 1 council session broadcast on Pierce County TV, was in violation of Sumner City Council rules and Public Disclosure Commission regulations.

Hynek, following a confrontation with the city clerk regarding a missing agenda item, announced his bid to run for the post.
