A Sumatran tiger at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium lost his battle with kidney disease and lymphoma this morning.
Veterinarians euthanized Bali, 14 1/2, after more than two years of working to arrest his cancer and slow his chronic kidney disease.
Head veterinarian Dr. Karen Wolf said the efforts gave the 265-pound tiger additional, quality time.
Bali went through chemotherapy and was given many other medications, but became increasingly ill in recent weeks, Wolf said.
“His quality of life was severely compromised,” she said. “He was not eating and became very lethargic.”
