FFA, 4-H students raise nearly $180,000 at Spring Fair livestock auction

FFA and 4-H students raised nearly $180,000 at the Spring Fair’s Northwest Junior Livestock Show and Sale on Sunday, according to a Spring Fair news release.

The students raised $179,995 at the auction, an increase of $31,395 over last year’s figure. Members prepared and showed their hogs, steers and sheep Thursday through Saturday at the annual Spring Fair in Puyallup, leading up to the auction event on Sunday.

All proceeds from the event benefit the FFA and 4-H participants, according to the release.

Spring Fair announces winners in various Creative Kids exhibit categories

A total of 1,058 entries were submitted at the Spring Fair’s Creative Kids Exhibit over the weekend, according to a release from the fair.

The annual event in Puyallup featured artistic creations from kids in two age groups,  6-10 years and 11-15 years.  Categories included art, baking, knitting and more.

Two traditional contests that returned this year included the Seattle Fudge Parent-Child Candy Contest and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers award, which is presented to the most outstanding wheat exhibits in the yeast bread category, according to the release.

VIDEO: Highlights from soggy second day at the Spring Fair

Friday was a wet day at the Spring Fair in Puyallup, but that didn’t keep kiddos and families from coming out for the annual event, which runs today through Sunday. Aussie Kingdom was a new attraction, letting kids get up close and personal with furry critters from Down Under. Friday events at fair to feature free admission for military, fireworks and other events

The second day of the Spring Fair is going to start off wet, but the show will go on. Here is a lineup of Friday’s noteworthy events:

·        Military Appreciation Day:  All active, reserve, and retired military and National Guard and their dependents, plus disabled veterans simply show their military ID at the gate, and receive free admission all day. Media partner 94.1 KMPS/102.5 KZOK

·        Spectacular fireworks show at approximately 9 pm tonight

·        Monster Truck Show, 7:30 p.m., separate ticketed event. Tickets available at the Fair Box Office or www.thefair.com

Spring Fair opens tomorrow with free admission for kids; runs through Sunday

The 24th annual Spring Fair kicks off tomorrow in Puyallup with free gate admission for kids.

The BECU Kids Free Gate Admission runs from 2-10 p.m. tomorrow, according to a Spring Fair news release. Kids and their families are encouraged to bring food donations for the Puyallup Food Bank drive.

Last year, the food bank collected 2,500 pounds of food at the Spring Fair, according to the release.

Military members, veterans and their families will also get free admission on Friday for Military Appreciation Day. The discount is available to those with valid military identification.

Spring Fair honors Military Appreciation Day April 19

The Spring Fair in Puyallup is approaching, and fair organizers want to show appreciation for the men and women in uniform.

Military Appreciation Day at the fair is Friday, April 19, and anyone in the military community can get free gate admission with a valid military ID.

All active, reserve, and retired military and National Guard and their dependents, plus disabled veterans can take advantage of the free admission, according to a release from public relations counsel Karen LaFlamme.
