FFA, 4-H students raise nearly $180,000 at Spring Fair livestock auction

FFA and 4-H students raised nearly $180,000 at the Spring Fair’s Northwest Junior Livestock Show and Sale on Sunday, according to a Spring Fair news release.

The students raised $179,995 at the auction, an increase of $31,395 over last year’s figure. Members prepared and showed their hogs, steers and sheep Thursday through Saturday at the annual Spring Fair in Puyallup, leading up to the auction event on Sunday.

All proceeds from the event benefit the FFA and 4-H participants, according to the release.

Spring Fair announces winners in various Creative Kids exhibit categories

A total of 1,058 entries were submitted at the Spring Fair’s Creative Kids Exhibit over the weekend, according to a release from the fair.

The annual event in Puyallup featured artistic creations from kids in two age groups,  6-10 years and 11-15 years.  Categories included art, baking, knitting and more.

Two traditional contests that returned this year included the Seattle Fudge Parent-Child Candy Contest and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers award, which is presented to the most outstanding wheat exhibits in the yeast bread category, according to the release.

Spring Fair greets more than 102,000 despite rainy conditions

The annual Spring Fair in Puyallup welcomed more than 102,000 people over the weekend despite chilly and sometimes wet conditions, according to a Spring Fair press release.

The weekend’s attendance was 102,090, the eighth largest in the fair’s 24-year history. Fair CEO Kent Hojem said it was the family-focused events that drew crowds despite the rain.

“We designed the Spring Fair to focus on the family, with lots of hands-on activities and free entertainment for every age group,” Hojem said in the release. “It is extremely satisfying to see that the variety we offer our guests at the Spring Fair

VIDEO: Highlights from soggy second day at the Spring Fair

Friday was a wet day at the Spring Fair in Puyallup, but that didn’t keep kiddos and families from coming out for the annual event, which runs today through Sunday. Aussie Kingdom was a new attraction, letting kids get up close and personal with furry critters from Down Under.
