Puyallup City Council discusses conduct of Planning Commissioners, council members as election season heats up

In a long and heated discussion at Tuesday night’s regular meeting, the Puyallup City Council members exchanged barbs on the ethical behavior of city officials during an election season that’s in full swing.

The discussion started after Council members John Palmer and Kent Boyle requested an addition to the meeting agenda regarding controversial conduct involving two Planning Commission members and an applicant seeking to rezone land near Shaw Road.

Sumner council member announces mayoral candidacy during meeting in apparent violation of city rules, state election laws

Sumner City Councilman Randy Hynek announced at a televised council meeting that he plans to challenge incumbent Mayor Dave Enslow in the November election.

The announcement, which Hynek shared at the April 1 council session broadcast on Pierce County TV, was in violation of Sumner City Council rules and Public Disclosure Commission regulations.

Hynek, following a confrontation with the city clerk regarding a missing agenda item, announced his bid to run for the post.
