Single candidate files for mayor race in South Prairie; special filing period fails to attract candidates for other open spots

Anthony (Tony) Caldwell filed last week to run unopposed for mayor of South Prairie, according to the Pierce County elections website.

The Pierce County Auditor’s office opened a special three-day filing period last week for a couple dozen races that had yet to attract candidates. Among those open spots, South Prairie had a mayor and council position up for grabs.

Nobody filed for South Prairie council Position 5, according to the elections website. Caldwell filed Friday morning, the last day of the filing period.

Pierce County Auditor’s Office announces special 3-day candidate filing period for elections

The Pierce County Auditor’s Office announced an elections filing period for races that have yet to attract candidates for the August primary and the November general election.

The special three-day filing period begins Wednesday and concludes June 7, according to a Pierce County news release.

There are 25 county races without candidates across Pierce County, including positions for city councils and school, fire and water districts. State law requires filing be reopened when no one files for a position during the regular filing period, according to the release.
