Northwest Trek set to reopen after cleaning up from January storms
Northwest Trek will reopen Friday after volunteers and staff spent weeks cleaning up debris and repairing damage from a series of January storms.
The park was last open to the public Jan. 13-15. In the following days, snow and ice hammered the Eatonville-area park. Sixty mph wind gusts and pounding rain followed. The park lost power for five days.
The storms weighed down branches and thousands of the limbs – some as heavy as 200 to 300 pounds – broke off.
Several exhibits were severely damaged. Nearly four miles of fencing around the park’s 435-acre, free-roaming area were taken out. …
