Loss of Lewis-McChord brigade will leave void for Lakewood

The 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division crosses “Phase Line: Lakewood” as it enters Kuwait as the last combat unit to leave Iraq in August 2010.

Tuesday’s announced inactivation of the 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division also means the coming end of the unit’s strong relationship with the city of Lakewood.

The city is the brigade’s “adopted” community under Lewis-McChord’s community connector program. The program pairs major units at the base with surrounding communities to break down the fence line between the military and civilian populations.

Spring Fair honors Military Appreciation Day April 19

The Spring Fair in Puyallup is approaching, and fair organizers want to show appreciation for the men and women in uniform.

Military Appreciation Day at the fair is Friday, April 19, and anyone in the military community can get free gate admission with a valid military ID.

All active, reserve, and retired military and National Guard and their dependents, plus disabled veterans can take advantage of the free admission, according to a release from public relations counsel Karen LaFlamme.
