City Council member Dumas files to challenge Enslow for mayor of Sumner

Sumner City Council member Nancy Dumas has filed to run against Incumbent Mayor Dave Enslow, according to the Pierce County elections website.

Dumas, who was elected to the council in 2011, filed Wednesday afternoon. She said she decided to run to give Sumner residents a choice for their mayor.

“I firmly believe a candidate should never run unopposed,” she said Wednesday.

Dumas said she committed to serve the community for four years, and said she will finish out her term proudly if a mayor bid doesn’t work out.

Eatonville mayor not running for re-election, files to run for Town Council Position 2

Eatonville Mayor Ray Harper filed Tuesday night to run for a Town Council spot, forgoing another term as mayor.

Harper has filed to run for Position 2, according to the Pierce County elections website.

Three candidates have filed to run for mayor, including Town Councilman Gordon Bowman.

Harper has struggled with budget problems in his tenure.

Last year in April, he experienced backlash from residents when he proposed disbanding the Eatonville Police Department and contracting with Pierce County Sheriff’s Department for services. The council unanimously voted against the cost-saving proposal.

McNutt first candidate to file for District 3 race in Puyallup elections

Chris McNutt, vice chair of Puyallup’s Planning Commission, has filed to run for City Council, according to the Pierce County elections website.

McNutt filed to run for District 3 Position 2. He is the first to declare a bid for the district spot. Filing week ends Friday, May 17.

District 3 Councilman Kent Boyle has yet to file for re-election. His current term expires at the end of this year.

Puyallup mayor term-limited; 2 file to run for his open City Council seat

Puyallup Mayor Rick Hansen has reached lifetime term limits on the City Council, and his seat is up for grabs.

So far two candidates have filed to run for the open spot, and both are members of the city’s Planning Commission.

Steve Hastings and Heather Shadko have filed to run for District 2 Position 2 in Puyallup. Hastings is the chair of the city’s Planning Commission and Shadko is an appointed member.

Filing week ends Friday, May 17. Anyone interested in filing for candidacy can do so online or in-person at the Pierce County Auditor’s Office.
